Anger, violence, war, negativity, craziness, and downright garbage is a lot of what's out in the world. There's SO much of it, isn't there? It is amazing but, to me, what it mostly is is sad. What a waste of human potential! It could easily be depressing and defeating except this is the deal, a great one at that. It is up to US to change it - up to YOU and ME. Do you get the immensity of that? Do you get how powerful we are? Do you get how much can actually be done? This is why I do not ever feel helpless at all. Ever!Continued, 1/4/08:I ESPECIALLY do not feel helpless TODAY after Barack Obama won the Iowa caucus! Woo-hoo!! Rock 'n roll, baby! Change is coming!!
These "I'm a Mama" moments are the most precious of moments when every cell in your being tells you you're just such a Mom. Is it not the best when your kid, out of nowhere says, "I love you, Mom." Or when you have a house full of kids and you find yourself making dinner for them and entertaining them and ordering them to pick up the toys and go put on their PJ's, etc? Man, I love those downright WHOLESOME moments in time. I feel like I'm holding the whole world in my hands by handling them and their impressionable little souls. How lucky am I?
Actually it is not BUT the presidential election really does hit the ground running today with the Iowa caucus. You may be asking, "what does that mean to you and me if we do not live in Iowa?" Well, a whole lot.You see momentum is a huge thing. You need it to get a ball rolling and to keep it rolling at the same speed albeit with not as much effort. It's like when you start a workout program or any new habit ... the beginning is tough but once you get going and form the habit, not so much. Same for a campaign. A campaign, or anything new, without momentum, leaves you pretty much at a stand still but a stand still in an election means almost-certain death.Whatever candidates come out on top tonight in Iowa are not guaranteed to be the winners in the end by any means but they are gonna be quite a bit ahead of the game because they'll have their ball rolling while the others are gonna have to work harder at getting theirs going and catching up. Not only that, coverage on the news will get them more visibility and thus more money to reach more people. So, how do you affect Iowa from afar? Well, if you haven't donated money by now, you might not be able to affect it on the ground with placards your money would've bought or staff working today that your money would've paid for (although if you donate now it can pay for these things and more later on). However, you can still affect the campaign today and from wherever you are by jumping on the bandwagon of whatever candidate you support because in doing so, you will affect the ultimate outcome on the real Election Day in November. May the best man (Barack, Barack, Barack!) :-) - or woman - win!
