I just quickly hit "send" on an e-mail I've been writing for about an hour. I wanted to be genuine yet careful with my words because this was an e-mail to an old male friend I have not spoken to in 10 years. Yes, 10! I could hardly believe it myself when I typed that out in the e-mail. That's crazy!
I have been thinking of this man those entire 10 years, too. How sad. We used to be the best of friends and then we stopped talking because a man came between us (I ended up marrying him - Tod). We then reconnected and when Tod and I divorced I saw him when he visited Miami but we stopped talking again this time because a woman came between us (he ended up marrying her). Of course that is overly simplified in those 2 sentences but that's the gist of it, I think.
Anyway, his birthday was last week and, as always, I thought of him on his special day. I even thought of calling him and saying "hey, it's me, man!" but I didn't. I just let the moment pass again as we are wont to do when we get a spur-of-the-moment idea we do not follow up on but he kept popping into my mind all week long. And then tonight I log on and I have a message from Reunion.com that my profile had been visited by 5 people and wouldn't you guess who one of those 5 people was? My friend, my wonderful, lovely friend!!!
I didn't tell him that in the e-mail. In fact, I totally forgot because I went right to the apology. I am hoping 10 years later we can understand each other and celebrate the happy lives we have each created. Keep your fingers crossed. This person meant SO much to me. I'll keep you posted!
